Dr. Janet L. Davis

After completion of her ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Janet Davis undertook two fellowships, the first in vitreoretinal surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and the second in ocular immunology at the National Eye Institute Laboratory of Immunology under the late Dr. Robert Nussenblatt. Currently she is the Leach Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Her academic career includes numerous national and international lectures. She has participated in multi-center clinical trials as well Phase I and II trials for drug development and surgical implantation of devices, stem cells, and gene therapy. Past leadership positions include chairman of the American Board of Ophthalmology in 2013, president of the American Uveitis Society in 2006-2008, and president of the International Uveitis Study Group 2013-2017. She is recipient of the AAO Lifetime Achievement and Secretariat Awards, a Silver Fellow of ARVO, and a member of Retina Society, Macula Society, American Ophthalmological Society, and the International Ocular Inflammation Society. She participated in the thesis review committee of the AOS in 2017-2019. She has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles on AIDS-related ocular infections, endophthalmitis, macular degeneration, diagnostic techniques for lymphoma and uveitis, and several review articles. She is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Ophthalmology.
